I read the book. I write the review.
While I have read many books of poetry by Bukowski, this is my first time reading one of his actual novels, which I picked up on a whim. While I was reading, I took notes, because the things I wanted to bring up became too overwhelming for me to simply remember. Here are the things that really stood out to be about this 200+ page novel:
I really tried to make it through this book. I'm a fan of the other McCarthy novels I've read and this one has great reviews and critical acclaim. As much as I wanted to like it, I found that it really dragged, and it was a struggle to get through because I just was not engrossed by the plot, nor did I have any feelings at all about any of the characters. Ultimately, I have decided that I'm giving up on trying to care about this book, so I am going to abandon it in favor of books which I may have a more rewarding experience reading.
